Whether spring, summer, fall or winter, any time of the year Persephone’s Farm Retreat is a peaceful place to relax and unwind and enjoy the outdoors. Each season brings new, interesting and beautiful changes to our farm retreat from newborn livestock and changes in wildlife and their activities to the beautiful colors of fall leaves and newly fallen snow glistening and pristine. We are open all year round.
Persephone Farm Retreat is literally minutes away from many attractions and points of interest. We are 30 minutes from Gatlinburg and the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, the Gatlinburg Space Needle, Sugarland Distillery, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks, Hollywood Star Cars Museum, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium, Historic Ogle Log Cabin, Pigeon Forge and 15 minutes from the famous Dollywood Theme Park and Splash Country.
Persephone’s Farm Retreat is an inviting, peaceful place to relax. Stay in one of our cabins and rise early with the clucking of the hens to see the bald eagles and great blue herons, Canadian geese and other water fowl skimming the water looking for an early morning meal. Enjoy watching the morning mist slowly disappear to show the mirror of the still, morning river, yet to be awakened by the opening of the damn locks which transform the peaceful water into a torrential river.
In years past, the Cherokee Indians lived on the banks of the river. Many artifacts have been found in the fields along the river. We have found pottery pieces, game stones, and a wide variety of arrow heads. This area was preferred since there are shoals above and below the property which made easy access to cross the river.
Many guests have shared the spiritual connection they have experienced while meditating at the retreat. Persephone’s is, indeed, a very special place that guests have returned repeatedly to reconnect personally and with their mates and family.
Over the years, our guests have come from all over the country and even from other countries and a number of them have been repeat visitors. We have received so many nice comments. Click here to read what some of our guests have had to say.
Persephone’s Farm Retreat is nestled between 200 year old maple and pecan trees on the banks of the French Broad River in Sevierville, Tennessee.
The French Broad River was navigated by the Spanish explorer, Hernando de Soto, in 1540 from North Carolina to Tennessee. There are excellent online references for those who wish to learn about the de Soto trail along with excellent maps and dialogue. You can also find a very informative narrative about de Soto’s relationship with the Indian tribes throughout his expedition.
What remains of the original 10,000 acres which was originally a thriving tobacco and cotton farm, is the Persephone’s Farm Retreat, the main house and barn and 10,5 acres. While these buildings have been maintained to assure structural integrity, and modern conveniences, they are as they were 130+ years ago.
The farm retreat offers a peaceful escape just minutes from the fast paced life of all the major tourist attractions of the great Smoky Mountains. Dollywood is just a 15 minute drive and Gatlinburg is a 30 minute drive.
The French Broad River watershed is considered to be home to the largest Great Blue Heron population in the world. Down river from Persephone’s Farm Retreat, within sight of the property, is a Great Blue Heron rookery. We frequently see them fishing along the river.
Persephone’s is known for the mystical peace and tranquility guests feel when entering the grounds. It was sacred ground to the Indians and we feel blessed to be able to share this gift with all who stay here.
